The Arctic coffee table is made of painted metal strips that create dynamic waves at the base, giving the illusion of movement. The strips and supporting frames are interwoven, creating useful spaces and adding to the table's functionality. The waves underneath can be used as a magazine stand, while the top corners of the table can double as CD stands. The table also features supporting frames where users can hang a small basket for added storage.
Measuring 1200mm in width, 600mm in depth, and 420mm in height, the Arctic coffee table is a sleek and compact addition to any living room. Its black color, inspired by the Chinese Five Elements, represents the Water element and enhances the visual illusion of the moving currents.
The design process for the Arctic coffee table was not without its challenges. The designer aimed to create a product that fulfilled the combination of high functionality, low cost, and high aesthetics, which is often considered a utopian ideal. The second version of the table successfully reduced the number of materials used while maintaining its dynamic outlook.
The Arctic coffee table was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2017 in the Furniture Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
The Arctic coffee table is not just a piece of furniture; it is a work of art that adds vibrancy and functionality to any living space. With its unique design inspired by tidal waves and park bench slats, this coffee table is a true reflection of contemporary design.
